Listen to me, Margaret. There are two churches. One follows God. And the other follows something else.

Plot – A young American woman is sent to Rome to begin a life of service to the church, but encounters a darkness that causes her to question her faith and uncovers a terrifying conspiracy that hopes to bring about the birth of evil incarnate.

The First Omen (2024) is a masterclass in cinematography and sound that makes up for a somewhat lackluster plot.

Without getting into spoilers the villains’ plot didn’t really make sense and I would prefer if they had an “accelerationist” motive instead.

With that said the soundtrack (Done by Mark Korven who did the soundtrack for the VVitch.) and visuals are first rate and provide a suitably creepy atmosphere that is genuinely effective.

The acting is great and the lead actress Nell Tiger Free is wonderful as the lead and is able to effortlessly switch between wholesome and creepy.

There is a specific scene which seems to be a reference to Possession (1981) that is great.

This is probably the best big studio horror movie in years and despite a somewhat weak motive for the villains’ and a number of contrivances I would recommend seeing it.

My Score-

82/100

The plot was a little convoluted but the visuals and sound alone are enough to recommend the film.

Until then I’m Nathan Edward Priem and that…was something else!
